Taylor Swift takes first place at the 2022 MTV Europe Music Awards

Taylor Swift won top spot at the 2022 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs), winning four of the top gongs in a night of electric performances.

Out of her six nominations, the US megastar won Best Video and Best Long Form Video for her 10-minute version of All Too Well (Taylor’s Version), as well as Best Female Artist and Best Pop at the ceremony at PSD Bank London Dome in Dusseldorf, Germany on Sunday.

Harry Styles, Nicki Minaj, Muse and Gorillaz were among the global stars who also received top honors in the 20 gender-neutral categories.

Singer-songwriter Swift thanked her fans — known as the Swifties — for every award, once saying, “You guys are the reason everything happened to me.”

Her first prize for Best Long Form Video was presented by John Lennon’s son and singer Julian.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, she said: “I’ve been writing and directing my music video for a long time, but this was the first short film I’ve made and I felt like I learned as much about myself as filmmaking can can be a natural extension of my storytelling as much as the songwriting.”

Swift also thanked actors Dylan O’Brien and Sadie Sink, who starred in the music video, which later also won Best Video, beating out competition from Harry Styles’ As It Was, Blackpink’s Pink Venom, Doja Cat’s Woman and Kendrick Lamars The Heart Part prevailed 5 and Nicki Minaj’s Super Freaky Girl.

Accepting second prize for the video, the singer reflected on how the project and that moment “almost never happened.”

She said: “The older version of this song came out about 10 years ago and it was never a single. It wasn’t even supposed to be a music video, but a short film.

“The only way I can explain it is that the fans wanted it that way. I will never stop thanking you for that.”

It also won the prestigious Video of the Year at the MTV Video Music Awards earlier this year.

Swift has been dominating charts around the world for the past few weeks following the release of her new album, Midnights.

Reflecting on how the album was received during the awards ceremony, she added: “I’m so blown away you have no idea how much it means to me to even do this as a career so I just want to say personally, from me to you, thank you for supporting (me).

“There’s not a single moment where I take that for granted. Many many thanks.”

Former One Direction star Styles was the most nominated musician at the awards with seven nominations but only went home as Best Live Performer.

US rapper Minaj took home Best Song for Super Freaky Girl and Best Hip Hop Artist, while US singer Chloe took home Best R&B.

David Guetta and Bebe Rexha opened the EMAs ceremony in rousing style with their hit song I’m Good (Blue), which won the Best Collaboration award.

The duo were hauled up in a box from below the stage as the crowd went wild around them, and Guetta also secured the Best Electronics title.

British band Muse accepted the Best Rock award after delivering an electric performance of their new track Will Of The People at the start of the ceremony.

Stormzy also delivered an emotional performance of his ballad Fire Babe during the ceremony, creating an intimate kinetic lighting moment with guest vocalist Debbie as he performed the track for the first time on television.

Ukrainian rap group Kalush Orchestra received a warm welcome from members of the audience as they waved the war-torn country’s flags as they took the stage to perform their Eurovision-winning track Stefania.

Traditional designs from the country were projected across the stage and they were supported by dancers wearing pink bucket hats favored by lead singer Oleh Psiuk.

Tom Cruise also broke some surprise news to introduce OneRepublic’s performance of I Ain’t Worried, which they wrote for Top Gun: Maverick.

The Hollywood star said he was “very grateful” to the band and their frontman Ryan Tedder for recording the song.

This year’s awards ceremony was hosted by celebrity power couple singer-songwriter Rita Ora and Oscar-winning filmmaker Taika Waititi. The award ceremony is being held in Germany for the sixth time.

It was the first time the couple worked together, having mostly kept their partnership out of the spotlight since they first sparked romance rumors last year after appearing side by side on red carpets.

Ora also won the Best Personal Style Look award during the ceremony.

A number of famous faces also made an appearance, including Baywatch star David Hasselhoff and Eurovision runner-up Sam Ryder.

The 2022 MTV EMAs return to Paramount+ UK on November 14th.
