Walk through the doors of the North East Art Collective Gallery on the upper level of Newcastle’s Eldon Garden Shopping Center and you’ll see an Aladdin’s cave with more than 2,000 works hanging on the walls.
You will be surprised to discover a “Tardis” with ten rooms to explore inside. They offer everything from posters, maps and mugs to unique collectible paintings, all capturing the essence of life in the Northeast.
Gallery Manager Gabby Morris says: “We may be a bit hidden, but with over 2,000 works hanging on the walls, from landscapes to modern art, we really are Newcastle’s best kept secret. We sell local art to locals, we are 100 percent in the Northeast.”
The independent gallery has been supporting the quality work of local artists for more than a decade. Your talent shines from every wall as you explore 10 stunning rooms filled with artwork themed to provide the best customer experience.
If you are looking for sports arts including Formula 1, Newcastle United FC and even Sunderland AFC you will find everything in one place. Or, across the corridor, find classic, more traditional art, such as depicting Peter Davidson’s street scenes of life in the Northeast.
In a separate room are animal pictures, from highland cattle to bumblebees. Or browse the art room for puffins and floral prints, including delicate designs by Angela Read.
Renowned radio host Alfie Joey’s art, including his insights into life in the mines, is on display alongside other artists’ watercolors.
A coastal room showcases some of the beautiful landscapes of the Northeast. Find a favorite view of Sycamore Gap or Bamburgh Castle, or a print of St James’ Park or the Stadium of Light, there’s something for everyone.
For edgier tastes, there’s futuristic Star Trek art and even a roller skate zombie! A glass room also displays ceramics and hand-painted vases. Or if fairy tales and mythical tales are more your style, there’s a room for that too.
Off the main drag to suit all styles and budgets
Gabby explains, “We offer a unique ‘off the high street’ presence. We are the essence of art, culture and luxury, but unlike most, we don’t choose our artists based on their names and monetary values; We select them based on their talent. Our standards are high and the quality is even higher. The artworks are priced to suit all budgets, meaning they make the perfect going away gift, wedding or birthday present, or simply to brighten up a room at home.”
Looking for gifts? Browse the selections in the corridors, from mugs and coasters to lampshades and bags – all printed with North East designs.
The gallery started with 40 artists and has now grown to feature 150 of the North East’s most recognized talent.
They have not gone unnoticed on the gallery’s journey. In 2014 they were named one of the UK’s top 100 small businesses, prompting a visit to Downing Street along with some other great local businesses. Over the past four years they have worked with and run events for a number of local charities at the gallery, raising over £20,000.
Gabby adds: “Our constant goal is to continue to leverage our amazing local talent so our clients can own some of these amazing pieces of art. As well as visiting our new online shop, just give us a call to say hello. You will be amazed by the selection of art.”
