Gemma Stephenson, 36, first noticed Sean Nodwell, 37, while he was working on her neighbors’ house.
After enlisting his help with her own windows, the couple formed a friendship during their work breaks — which soon turned into stronger feelings.
Two years later, the couple are now preparing to welcome their first baby together, with Gemma being four and a half months pregnant.
The massage therapist, who lives in Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire with her two children from a previous relationship, said: “We are happier than ever to be having our first baby together.
“Everything seems to come together perfectly and our baby is happy and healthy which is an absolute blessing!
“Life can best surprise you when you least expect it and you really don’t know what the future will hold but things are happening as they are meant to and we are happier now than ever.
“I’m so glad I took him to clean my windows. I can’t wait to start our family together and our baby will definitely support Man United as much as we do.”
After meeting Sean briefly when he was hard at work across the street from her home, single mom Gemma decided to hire him to clean the windows of her own home.
Although Gemma invited him on a purely professional basis, he couldn’t help but be charmed by his helpful nature as he helped her out of her car with her groceries.
She said: “I first saw Sean in my neighbours’ garden as I was getting out of the car with my weekly shop.
“He greeted me with a soft Scouse accent and offered to help me with some groceries, which was really sweet, but I politely declined.
“At the time I thought it was a really nice gesture as I’ve been a single mom for many years and I was used to doing something like this on my own.
“A few weeks later I saw him again at my property and he asked how I was doing and offered his window cleaning service in the future, which I agreed to as my neighbor recommended him too.
“About a week later, out of the blue, he came into my yard with his ladders and a bucket and made a cheeky comment, ‘Okay, honey, I came to clean your windows for you.’
“As he started to work he called down to me, ‘Any chance of a brew like haha’ so I made him a cup of coffee and he came down and we started talking about our lives.
“The next time he came over he was all smiles and seemed genuinely happy with himself and we continued our regular beers and chats together in the garden while he worked.
“I enjoyed seeing Sean because he always made me laugh and we talked about the craziest things from music to kids to gardening.”
Sean eventually stopped washing Gemma’s windows to make a career change – and they didn’t see each other for several months.
But the pair reunited to hang out with friends at the pub as he moved from the area and back to Merseyside after splitting from his wife.
The goodbye turned out to be just the beginning for the couple as newly single Sean got in touch the following week to say he had time for the weekend and wanted to see her.
Gemma said: “He contacted me to see what I was up to and he said he was looking forward to the weekend as he was busy at work and didn’t have much planned.
“We continued talking for a bit until half an hour into the conversation he said, ‘I’ll take a train now and come to your place, is that alright?’
“That night we talked into the wee hours, played poker, had a few drinks and laughed like teenagers.”
From that first weekend in June 2021, the couple continued to see each other regularly, taking trips to Blackpool and Wakefield on the weekends.
They frequented karaoke bars and restaurants, stayed in hotels, and went on spa days together.
After eight happy months Gemma and Sean couldn’t believe it when they found out Gemma was pregnant in February 2022 but are now happier than ever.
They found out yesterday that they are expecting a baby boy in November 2022 and plan to name their son after Sean’s grandfather.
Sean, who now works as a warehouse worker, said: “Gemma and I are doing well.
“To learn we had a baby on the way was a bit of a shock to the system.
“We found out yesterday that we’re having a baby boy – we’re calling him Joseph, not after the Technicolor dream coat, but Joseph, my grandfather.
“You never know when you’re going to meet someone.
“I look forward to raising Joseph and being a happy, normal family and he might be a Man United fan too!”
Gemma said: “The good times just didn’t seem to end. We lived a carefree life of fun, passion and excitement – it was like a rollercoaster ride and the ride just got better.
“We used to meet up whenever we had free time and then I found out I was pregnant and went into total shock mode!
“Four months later we are happier than ever to have our first baby together.”
