Sheffield Park, Haywards Heath:
Grab your crayons and a Sheffield Park sketchbook as you head into the garden on the Summer Holiday Art Trail. £2 per trail (normal entry applies) and no reservation required. It runs daily from 10am to 4:30pm Thursday 21st July to Thursday 1st September.
Kwik Cricket Sessions are held every Wednesday during the school summer holidays at the famous Sheffield Park cricket ground. This is in partnership with Sussex Cricket and Sport England. Drop-in sessions are held on Wednesdays from 10:00-13:00 and 14:00-16:00 between July 27th and August 31st. Normal admission applies, but the sessions are free and do not need to be booked.
Comber’s Field is once again home to active challenges or have fun at the Play Glade, Nymans’ natural play area. Nymans also hosts open-air theater performances against the backdrop of the ruins.
Standen House, East Grinstead:
Join us for a summer of fun with a retro 70’s twist, with space hoppers and funky fashions for the creatures on the summer trail. From Saturday, July 23 to Wednesday, August 31, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., there will be crafts in the forest cave and huge outdoor garden games.
From Saturday 23 July to Sunday 31 August there is a medieval fair. This event includes mini-tournaments, hands-on archery, hobby horses and dress-up, Castle Siege games, storytelling and armor displays.
This summer, Petworth House celebrates its 75th anniversary under the care of the National Trust with a fun program of family events, from outdoor games to cinema under the stars. From 23 July to 4 September free garden games are offered including space hoppers, croquet, racquets and balls and badminton.
Uppark House and Garden, South Harting:
A free Conservation Trail Challenge will be held July 16 through September 4. Do you have what it takes to be a ranger, gardener or restorer and find out how to protect Uppark and its wildlife? Grab a hiking map and hunt down the 10 action points in the garden, forest and meadow. They draw butterflies, hop like a rabbit and help build a huge nest.
The Conservation Trail challenge also includes a bug bingo game, so keep an eye out for centipedes and caterpillars, bumblebees and bugs and tick them off
Uppark House also has an outdoor theater.
In the former home of Rudyard Kipling, you can see the landscapes that inspired his work. There are many free activities to enjoy during your visit including our lawn games, a visit to the working water mill, the Little Red Hen story basket and a natural play area with rope climbing, carved totem pole, swings, mini mazes and a lake view.
Quantum Theater is back with a new adaptation of two of Beatrix Potter’s most popular stories, The Tales of Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny, on Saturday and Sunday 2nd and 3rd July.
