Summer is finally here, and as this new season marks the influx of new clothes and holiday bookings, refreshing your home decor should be next on your list.

Ensuring your wardrobe is freshened up in time for the warm and mild months and ahead of the curve is paramount when you’re a fashionista, so why should your home be any different?

A new sofa or patterned rug, a vintage floor lamp or shelf, or even a complete change of theme – it’s time to spice things up in our home.

With more and more people thinking about updating interior style for the new season, we thought it would be helpful to update you on the trends that will be dominating interior magazines this year.

Jacobs & Dalton, luxury online retailer of sheepskins, has listed 10 hot home trends to be aware of and incorporate into your home this summer.

From natural materials to pops of color, geometric designs and Scandinavian-inspired decor, there’s something for everyone.

natural materials

Wood, stone and rattan are all the rage this summer.

Whether you choose a bamboo coffee table or a rattan bistro set for your patio, it’s a big trend to keep in mind.

“Load siding is becoming a big trend and we predict this will not only be a big trend for summer 2022, but will continue into 2023,” reveals James Waylett.

Minimalist designs

Clean lines and simple shapes may appeal to you, and if so, sticking to a minimalist approach might be your thing.

“A minimalist style perfectly complements the first trend of natural materials, both working in complete harmony with each other,” says James, who also predicts that this trend will continue for a while.

splash of color

After this year’s obsession with dopamine dressing and dopamine decor, we’re still obsessed with color.

If, like us, you’re looking to add some color to your home, consider bright carpets, colorful prints and bold hues in interesting textures.

“This style may seem completely opposite to the first two, but when used correctly, the use of small pops of color can add a lot of personality to a minimalist space,” explains James.

“If you’re too scared to remove the color, start with smaller accessories that are easy to switch out.

“If you’ve been a part of the gray everything trend for a while, it might seem a bit daunting, but there’s no better time than summer to have fun and add some color to your home and life.”

outdoor life

When the sun shines we all want to make the most of the warmer weather by spending more time outdoors, in our gardens and on our balconies.

Keeping friends and family entertained this summer will be a breeze if you ensure our outdoor spaces are full of flair, character and inviting features.

James thinks this is the perfect time of year to invest in our gardens and this can be done by purchasing versatile bistro sets, outdoor accessories and unique solar lighting.

He recommends taking the trends from your home and into your garden “for a super modern and luxurious outdoor living space”.

Botanical Prints

We’ve tackled indoors and outdoors, but how about bringing the outdoors indoors?

“This trend is perfect for summer and you can have fun incorporating it into your home to make it feel like tropical paradise,” says James.

He adds that if you have a minimalist space, consider adding botanical prints to add color and drama.

Whether you’re adding plants to your living room or opting for a tropical print duvet set or throw, it’s never been easier.

geometric pattern

Some might say that geometric patterns are a bit dated, but James says the opposite.

He reveals that the hashtag #geometricpatterns is a big hit on Instagram, with more than 53,000 posts and counting.

“We expect people to use these bold and fun patterns to express the joy of their first summer without restrictions since the pandemic began,” he adds.

Industrial style

If you like the look of exposed brick and metal fixtures, then the industrial trend is for you.

“This timeless trend is a great choice if you want to add instant character and luxury to your home,” says James.

“This style is best used in a home that can take open plan living to the extreme and take full advantage of exposed brickwork, metal beams and touches of rustic wood.”

Exposed brick walls have never been more in demand – but if you don’t have the luxury of having them in your home, wallpaper can work too.

Mid-century modern

If you love a bit of retro wallpaper, you’re in luck.

Mid-century modern is a trend that blends 70’s style with modern features.

Think bright and bold wallpaper, plush velvet sofas and dark wood furniture.

“Just in time for summer 2022, this trend is making a huge comeback and we think it will continue for a while after that,” reveals James.

“This style appeals to so many people because it allows for tremendous variation, whether you opt for a more neutral color palette, more vibrant tones, or an eclectic mix of both, you’re sure to pull off this style well.”

Scandinavian style

Simplicity and functionality are hallmarks of Scandinavian style, so if you’re a fan of tidy spaces, you should jump on this trend.

“We usually see this style trending in the cooler months, but with #scandihome hitting 863,000 posts on Instagram, we think it’s here to stay for summer too,” says James.

Explaining that this trend can be adapted for the warmer months, he recommends swapping out cozy candles for vases filled with brightly colored, fresh flowers, and replacing neutral throw pillows with pastels like blush and duck egg blue.

“Keep clutter to a minimum and give your walls a fresh coat of paint with a coat of white paint. Scandi style is also heavily influenced by nature and brings the outside in, so make the most of it by embracing the outdoor living trend too,” he adds.

Global influences

After two years of isolation, holidays are picking up again and people are more invested in the world again.

Bringing trends from around the world into our home has never been easier and this can be achieved by adding a Moroccan-inspired rug or some Indian-inspired textiles.

James says this is a really fun trend to play with for summer 2022 and you can take inspiration from your Mediterranean or tropical vacation and apply it to your home.

“There are endless possibilities depending on where in the world you choose to spark your creativity.”
