Westhampton Garden Club’s House & Garden Tour returns on Friday 8th July after a four year hiatus.
The 2022 Tour includes seven stops spread across Quogue, Remsenburg and Westhampton Beach.
“It’s mostly focused on the gardens this year,” Westhampton Garden Club president Melissa Morgan Nelson said last week. “These are some really great gardens that we have.”
Nelson pointed out that the home’s addresses will not be revealed until tickets are issued, in line with the club’s longstanding practice.
“We don’t even tell our own members,” Nelson said.
The club was founded in 1928 and newspaper archives show that the House & Garden Tour dates back to the 1950s, if not earlier. The event is usually held every two years, but the 2020 tour has been canceled due to the pandemic.
“Obviously we haven’t been able to have it since 2018,” Nelson said. “We’re not even going to talk about why. We all know why.”
Normally the tour would include a look inside all of the houses, but due to ongoing health and safety concerns, this time entry will be restricted at most stops.
Wherever garden visitors stop first, they receive a tour diary with descriptions of each location and tips on what to look out for.
“We have faculty at each of the venues,” Nelson said. “When you arrive at the place you pick first, someone will be there to check you in.”
A stop provides refreshments for all tour-goers, who also have the option to purchase admission to a luncheon at Westhampton Country Club, where boutiques will be set up to buy jewelery and other wearable items, as well as small paintings, maps and gifts.
Tickets can be pre-ordered from Lynne’s Cards & Gifts in Westhampton Beach Village and the Quogue Liquor Store and Quogue Shop in Quogue Village. Tickets will be mailed from Friday 24th June or can be picked up at the Quogue Library on the day of the tour.
Tickets will be sold on the club website up to the day of the tour and there will be an in person sale in Westhampton Beach on Saturday 25 June between the Post Office and Farmers Market and on Saturday 2 July outside the Quogue Post Office .
Proceeds will support a range of Westhampton Garden Club activities. The club maintains public gardens and leads conservation and educational initiatives. He also provides topiary arrangements and outdoor potted plants for patients at East End Hospice, and an annual stipend for a local high school senior.
Tickets start at $85 for the tour only and $135 for the tour and lunch. Tickets can be purchased at westhamptongardenclub.org.
