Major milestone reached on new £7.5m 60-unit retirement home in Doncaster

The Deputy Mayor of Doncaster met with local representatives from Esh Construction, Housing 21 and Doncaster Council to see the latest progress on the £7.5million scheme, which will provide housing for people over 55.

The development, named Askern Vale Court, will offer 58 one and two bedroom apartments and two bungalows for social rent. The apartment building will have communal living facilities, including a lounge with kitchen, as well as a communal garden area.

Councilor Glyn Jones, Deputy Mayor and Member of the Cabinet for Housing and Business, said: “It was an honor to be invited to the topping out ceremony of this new project.

Deborah Hope, Development Manager at Housing 21 said: “We are delighted to have reached this important milestone in the development of Askern Vale, our brand new retirement housing scheme in Doncaster.

“This program will provide private and self-contained retirement homes designed to allow residents to live independently in a community environment. We look forward to welcoming new residents to Askern Vale when the program opens next year.”

Designed by Brewster Bye Architects, the retirement housing scheme was advanced as a land-led development by Esh Construction, Collaborate Living and Housing 21 to address a lack of housing options for an aging population in Doncaster.

Esh Operations Manager Simon Woodward added: “It is a pleasure to welcome local representatives to celebrate this important milestone.

“We have previously worked in partnership with Housing 21 on the award-winning development of Lady Ida Lodge in Cookridge and are delighted to continue this successful collaboration as we build more homes for the over 55s.

“The interior fit-out of Askern Vale has now begun and will continue over the next six months.”
