The Old Vicarage is a stunning property set in the countryside – a modern and extremely comfortable period house with a large open plan kitchen and six bedrooms.
Bronte sisters Anne, Charlotte and Emily stayed at home with their brother Branwell when they visited their great-uncle, Rev. John Fennell of Stone Cross Church in 1829. This was one of two recorded stays and occurred after the loss of her mother, Maria Bronte.
In one of her surviving letters, Charlotte, then 13, wrote about inclement weather during her stay, but recorded her reading and classes during her stay. Another visit took place in 1840 when they toured the newly built Church at the Stone Cross.
A large entrance and hall lead to the house’s kitchen with breakfast room, which is particularly light and spacious with windows at each end. It has a large cooking island and an Aga stove.
There is a library with custom made bookcases and a fireplace with stove. Then comes the living room, again with a stunning fireplace and stove and original features such as a dado rail and cornice.
A formal dining room also has an antique fireplace. Further facilities on the ground floor include a useful utility room and cloakroom.
There is a half landing from one of the two flights of stairs to the first floor with a large window overlooking the terraced garden.
Six bedrooms, two of which are ensuite, while the master bedroom also has its own dressing room.
A main bathroom includes a bathtub and a separate shower.
With well landscaped gardens on three sides of the property there are several pleasant seating areas and a newly created BBQ area off the French doors of the kitchen making it ideal for entertaining.
The property has a parking space as well as a double garage which has an inspection pit to one side.
Additional land can be purchased through separate negotiations.
