Home and Garden Festival returns to Chestnut Hill with 150 vendors and live music

Stroll Germantown Avenue next month and welcome the spring weather by shopping for vegetables, flowers and garden ornaments.

The Chestnut Hill Business District hosts its Home & Garden Festival ffrom 11 a.m. to 5 p.m on Sunday May 1st. The annual event features 150 different types of vendors, live performances, food trucks and deals at more than 200 companies along the corridor.

Visitors can shop for home design and handcrafted furniture pieces, as well as garden art, beekeeping supplies, terrariums, and gardening tools. Other small bathroom vendors feature jewelry, clothing, wearable art, and vintage items.

This year, organizers are adding a “Sustainability Hub” so visitors can learn more about green activism and sustainability throughout Philadelphia.

Christa Barfield, founder of farming company Farmer Jawn, and Terril Haigler, aka Ya Fav Trashman, give short talks on sustainability and keeping the city clean for residents. There will also be traders who sell sustainably manufactured products.

Families can attend the Fun Fest at Jenks Elementary School on Germantown Ave. 8301 go. Children under the age of ten can play in the open-air playground, have their face painted and do handicrafts. Food trucks will sell popcorn, cotton candy, and ice cream on-site.

New to the community festival is the Sustainability Hub, which will feature educational information about sustainability and green activism in Philadelphia.

The Stagecrafters Theater showcases a variety of circus arts and other interactive theater activities 8130 Germantown Ave. from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Philadelphia School of the Circus Arts is hosting a stilt walker and juggler from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m

Ben’s Balloon Arts will make balloon animals from 12:30pm to 2:30pm followed by The Amazing Carson reading tarot cards from 2pm to 4pm

More than 200 Chestnut Hill stores, including 17 bars and restaurants, will be open for walk-in sales and specialty food.

The Chestnut Hill Home and Garden Festival brings together more than 200 businesses in the Chestnut Hill Business District, including nearly 20 bars and restaurants participating in the vendor’s market.

The Children’s Theater performs “Jack and the Bean Stalk” at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm

Live music is played on two stages throughout the day, with local acts like Variable Elements, 56 Men and Hank’s Cadillac. The Friends of Chestnut Hill Library is holding a used book sale in front of their location at 8711 Germantown Ave.

Per Philadelphia’s current mandate, masks are required indoors.
