As we head towards another holiday many of us will be thinking about spending time in the garden and making the most of the outdoor space on our doorstep. But if you want to spend the upcoming days off getting your greenery in tip-top condition, that also means a visit to the garden center.
Nottinghamshire has some fabulous garden centers scattered across the county. So we found out where some of the biggest ones are, what they have to offer and most importantly, when they’re open over the holidays.
Spring Bank Holiday falls on Thursday 2nd June 2022. This year we have an additional bank holiday to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, this falls on Friday 3rd June 2022
Nottinghamshire Garden Centers and their Bank Holiday opening times are listed below. They are in no particular order.
Garden and House of East Bridgeford
We start with a huge home and garden center on the old A46 Fosse Way, East Bridgford, near Bingham. Blue Diamond’s flagship store covers approximately 81,000 square feet and sells everything from compost to patio furniture, has an array of plants and trees, as well as a large restaurant, clothing, home goods and gifts.
Also on site is Ed & Molly’s play barn, a large car park with shops including Trespass.

Open: Public holiday opening hours as usual.

Sunday: 10am – 4.30pm (10am – 10.30am only surfing)

Trowell Garden Center
The family run garden center dates back to the early 1970’s and has evolved over the years, retaining its core passion for plants but expanding to include a cafe and is home to the Maidenhead Aquatics Centre.
As well as a range of plants, bulbs and seeds, the center offers garden furniture, homes and gits and care for wild birds.

Notcutts Wheatcroft
If you’re a gardener in Nottingham, you know Wheatcrofts. There has been a garden center at this location for years. The massive garden center and homeware store now owned and operated by Notcutts stocks everything from flower bulbs to trees, as well as various concession shops including Cotton Traders, Crane Garden Buildings, Hotter, Stormclad and more. There’s also a restaurant if all that shopping gets too much.

Woodborough Green Garden Centre
You may know it by its former name Timmermans, but now the retailer is part of the British Garden Center family and goes by the name of Woodborough Green Garden Centre.
According to its website, visitors will find “a huge and well-stocked plant section containing all the gardening accessories and tools you should need”. And added: “We take care of your projects. So if you need advice, feel free to contact our knowledgeable local staff.”

Bardill’s Garden Center
Bardills can boast of being a family business for more than 150 years. The garden and aquarium center says: “Plants are a great passion of ours, since the company originally started out as a rose nursery.” However, the garden center does not stop there.
There are also indoor and outdoor plants and cacti, treats for wild birds in the form of food and fodder, a garden furniture and barbecue section, as well as accessories and aquaristics for your pond or pool. Of course there is also a café

Brookfields Garden Center
The family-run Brookfields Garden Center in Mapperley says, “We’ve become a popular destination thanks to our fantastic selection of plants, tools and gardening essentials.” and outdoor furniture sections as well as a cafe/lunch break.

Moore’s Nurseries and Garden Center
This friendly, family-run garden center has been in existence for more than 40 years. With the third generation of Moores at the helm, the garden center prides itself on its “reputation for excellent quality plants at great value for money”.
With an extensive range of plants, shrubs and trees and an on-site café, the garden dealer creates a lovely family atmosphere – they even organize regular bingo and Sunday lunch events.

Floralands Garden Center
At this garden center on the edge of the Nottinghamshire countryside, you’ll find a ‘real Aladdin’s cave’ of gardening essentials. As an integral part of the Floralands leisure and retail community, the garden center team says, “Whether you’re a keen amateur or a seasoned gardener, we’ve got what you need.” They added these hours of operation [given here] only apply to the garden centre, other shops on site may have different times.

Jacksdale Garden Center
This family run business has been operating since 2004 and offers a wide variety of products to suit different budgets and tastes. The friendly and knowledgeable staff say they are on hand to offer advice and assistance to customers.
As well as an enviable selection of plants and shrubs, the garden center also offers a selection of pavers and aggregates, as well as a tea room serving a range of hot and cold home-made food including cakes, tea and specialty coffees.

Nurseries on the hill
Hilltop Nurseries is a family run nursery established in 1971. According to the Nurseries’ website, the team is “passionate about plants and offering customers the best there is to offer,” adding, “Whether it’s locally grown bedding, native basket and tub plants, or Italian gems!”

Southwell Garden Center
This garden center houses a range of plants of all shapes and sizes, as well as gardening tools, planters and implements. There is a tea room, craft and gift shop and plenty of advice.

Reg Taylor’s Garden Center
Reg Taylor’s Garden Center is a family business that has been growing for well over 60 years. Set in 25 acres, there’s plenty to do here to keep you busy. Apart from the garden centre, there are also tea rooms, a mower shop and a swan sanctuary.
