With the cost of living rising, homeowners could be in for an unpleasant surprise with another bill to pay.
A home with a yard can be more expensive because of the labor, expense, and yard waste management involved.
As you can imagine, London’s local authorities are among the most expensive in the country when it comes to garden waste collection.
Although gardens are a rare commodity in the capital, some local authorities charge nearly £100 a year for the service, according to My London.
Ten boroughs out of 32 in London offer free rubbish collection, these are: Greenwich, Hackney, Hammersmith and Fulham, Hillingdon, Islington, Newham, Redbridge, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest and Wandsworth.
For the rest of the counties, prices vary widely, with the most expensive counties charging more than twice the cheapest.
Southwark charges £40 per year and Barking and Dagenham £41.
But at the higher end of the scale, Lewisham charges £85 a year.
And Richmond and Kingston upon Thames are charging a whopping £96 a year upfront payment for having to buy a bin first.
Outside of the capital, prices are cheaper on average, but they’re still up in most places.
Wolverhampton City Council wrote to residents last year to inform them that the annual fee for emptying their special bins will increase from £35 to £38 in 2022.
Cheshire has an annual fee of £40 which was introduced in February this year.

And Liverpool residents enjoyed free garden waste collection, but earlier this week an annual fee of £40 a year was imposed.
Meanwhile, Kent’s garden waste collection services in London are almost as expensive in certain areas, with Dartford residents spending £90 the first year due to the price of green bins.
And if you want to get the most bang for your buck, some places in Wales, such as B. Monmouthshire, just a meager fee of £14 for annual garden waste collection.
You can avoid these costs in all counties by simply taking your garden waste to a local recycling center.
It comes after news Brits will no longer have to pay to take home improvement waste to landfill.
Government charges have led to charges being phased out in England as early as next month.
