I’ve been asked to write a few comments on Santo Cervello’s Time Gates series. I was on a plane from Poland to California a few days ago when I got another glimpse of Santo’s work and art.
When I lived with my family in Poland for two months, 100 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, I experienced the close proximity to the war zone. We followed the news of the invasion with horror, knowing that thousands of people crossed the nearby Polish border every day. From this perspective, I viewed Santo’s intuitive art as a documentation of actual events that he downloaded long before they happened. How was it possible that he was producing images of “war plans” years before the war?
The other spectrum of Santos’ art is his unique, visionary gaze, taking us through timegate portals of our own souls, where we realize who we are and who will become.
Finding the Peace Note is a restoration and revitalization of the dignity of our lives. Santo says, “The Peace Note is implanted in our aura and DNA of our being. Can we change the future of war by changing the script of the people who control the plans to kill us? Who gives such people the freedom to kill mankind?”
“Jane Walker’s Rose” from Volume IV is an image that is closest to me. A beautiful rose in bloom, in a small, plain vase, in a garden seeded with metallic constructs. Isn’t this picture a metaphor of the war landscape? This new and beautiful proud flower dares to grow and thrive in spite of everything.
For me, the red rose also represents the open hearts of thousands of Polish citizens who welcome the Ukrainian refugees into their homes. The phoenix rises from its ashes full of hope, dreaming not of war but of peace with the right to live in harmonious coexistence.

About the author & artist
Prior to the opening of the Actor’s Corner Café in 2011, Santo and his wife Grace founded the art museum. The five volumes of Santo Cervello’s Time Gates contain nearly seven hundred art illustrations. This compelling work of art is interwoven with fiction, drama, poetry and philosophical discourse. It’s like stepping into a very unique theater where everything is full of imagery and vibrancy.
Santo Cervello has worked as an actor, director, and writer-producer at Canadian Theater, presenting innovative and transformative drama that has reached millions of people across Canada, the US and the UK. He has written plays for CBC and BBC radio and a television series for Singapore Television and has performed at Carnegie Recital Hall in New York City.
In 1972, Mr. Cervello founded the Erewhon Theater which sparked passions and created vibrant trends in Canadian theater until 2011. They now live in California with his wife Grace. The five volumes of Santo Cervello’s Time Gates are now complete and available worldwide.
