Design Forward Program 2022 for 3D Digital Creators and Fashion Entrepreneurs in West Africa

That DSNFWD is a four-month residency program developed by The Assembly in collaboration with University of Ravensbourne for 3D digital developers, fashion entrepreneurs and university students who want to create innovative digital fashion products and experiences in collaboration with international colleagues.

DSNFWD is aimed at West African 3D digital designers and fashion entrepreneurs working in apparel, textile and accessories design, styling, merchandising and brand management.

The program aims to build the capacity and competitiveness of creators and entrepreneurs in fashion and digital services, showcase cross-cultural design and show how African fashion creatives use the versatility of digital design to increase efficiency and reduce waste .

The Digital Fashion Residency is the first of its kind, calling on fashion creatives running a commercially viable creative practice or brand, as well as digital creators proficient in design software such as Clo3D, Rhino and Adobe Creative Suite.

The program sets you up with:

  • Training support from a global faculty of creative industry thought leaders and practitioners
  • Access to an international community of innovative developers
  • Digital infrastructure for the duration of the program

selection criterion

For 3D digital creators

Be a citizen of any country in West Africa

Must be proficient in design software such as Clo3D, Rhino and Adobe Creative Suite.

Must have existed for 1-5 years

Must have experiential knowledge of African global fashion market

Must have experience developing collaborative work instructions

Must be fully available for participation for the full duration of the program (13 weeks).

For fashion entrepreneurs

Be a citizen of any country in West Africa

Must have run a fashion business or sole practice for 2-5 years

Must have experiential knowledge of African global fashion market

Must have experience developing collaborative work instructions

Must be fully available for participation for the full duration of the program (13 weeks).

The program is open to digital creatives and fashion entrepreneurs from all countries in West Africa (Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cabo Verde, Chad, Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal , Sierra Leone and Togo).

  • Once paired with Ravensbourne students, the resident teams work together on an open assignment, engaging in in-depth research into each other’s brands and practices. Using the results of their research, each resident team develops an independent and innovative digital fashion product, service or experience that involves the use of 3D techniques, high-tech design and manufacturing.
  • The program will provide training support and digital infrastructure for resident creatives throughout its lifetime. The training modules are supported by a global faculty and include NFTs, partnerships and collaborations, creative direction, pitching, pricing, profitability and marketing.
